In the Fuente de Higara valley, a few kilometres from Ronda with a splendid view of the historic town, a short distance from the main road and nestled up against the old hermitage within olive plantations is this fantastic villa. The unassuming electric security gate with video phone opens up to reveal the splendid, one hectare, grounds that require some description before we enter the main house, guest house or garage.
The garden has so many mature trees. The property perimeter is defined by a fence of one thousand Cyprus trees and the seventy fully grown olive trees produce between two and eight hundred kilograms per annum of olives that the local co-operative is happy to accept. There are more than twenty varieties of fruit trees including cherries, nispero, membrilla, lemon and orange, some of which are within an orchard area while others surround the house and favour the spring air with their blossom. The numerous palm trees serve to highlight the romantic atmosphere that is further enhanced by a scattering of statuettes and figurines. There are four fountains, the two largest can be set by a timer and help to make the hot summer days a thrill while one of the two smaller fountains serve to refresh the duck pond in the orchard. The whole garden is fully illuminated with more than thirty lights and the automated sprinkler system that includes a new pump keeps the entire garden, the grass and all the plants in peak condition.
There is a bandstand near the four-by-ten meter swimming pool that provides very welcome shade in the summer heat and for those inclined to early morning or evening activity there is a tennis court. Multiple car parking areas for up to twenty cars if need be provide the setting for possible serious socialising and entertaining while the garage with its work bench provide security for one’s own car. The guest house is set some distance away from the main house and comprises a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom and a separate large utility room. Behind the guest house is a large formal vegetable garden that is situated above a large underground cave.
The main house was renovated and finished in 2004 from a house built in 1996 and has a full escritura and its features reflect the care that has gone into creating the garden. The walls are all double insulated and the windows are double glazed with high impact glass. While the electricity is mains supplied, the water is supplied automatically from two wells to a water deposit of over one hundred tons. There is central heating throughout the building with a new oil fired heater providing hot water.
Entering the main door from the wide front porch, there is a colourful reception area. To the right is the sitting room and fireplace while slightly hidden further to the right is the dining room with picture windows. Two of the three guest bedrooms with en suite bathrooms are accessed from this main area, while the door to the third is by the stairs. All three bedrooms have their own private patios and access to the garden. To the left of the main entrance is an American kitchen, bar and a breakfast room with picture windows. Below the stairs is the downstairs toilet.
Upstairs is a large landing made into a sun room and roof terrace that leads to the master bedroom through a large dressing room. Naturally there is an en suit bathroom and another roof terrace. A well situated study at the heart of the building is next to the main guest bedroom with en suite bathroom (in this instance only there is a shower all the other bathrooms have baths).
Over the last few years the villa has been rented on occasions through www.RealRonda.com and provides two thousand Euros a week in high season and one thousand four hundred Euros in the low season. The villa comes fully furnished.
